When to Call an Electrician (Don't Wait)

Most electrical problems start small. Here are the warning signs we'd encourage any homeowner to take seriously.

Lights flickering or dimming

An occasional flicker when the fridge kicks in is normal. Persistent flickering, especially across multiple rooms, is a sign of loose connections or an overloaded circuit.

Burning smell from a socket

If you can smell that distinctive sharp, plasticky burn near any socket, switch off at the consumer unit and ring us. This one we always treat as urgent.

Trips that keep tripping

A breaker tripping once is normal. A breaker tripping every time you boil the kettle, or one that won't reset at all, points to a real fault that needs finding properly.

Round-pin sockets or fabric-covered cable

If your sockets take the old round-pin plugs, or you've spotted cloth-covered wiring in the loft, your installation is likely 50+ years old and a full rewire should be on the cards.

Our Promise to You

  • Certified, registered, insured. NAPIT, Part P, £10M public liability — paperwork that holds up.
  • One named contact. You always know who's coming, when, and how to reach them.
  • Free aftercare for 12 months. Anything we install, anything we touch — covered for a year.

Family-run, no salespeople, no call centres

Every quote is given by the electrician who'd actually do the job. No "consultants", no commission-driven upsells, no flashy chemical-spray cleaners trying to flog you a £4,000 maintenance plan.

Jamie says: "I started JJB in 1994 because I kept seeing customers ripped off by big firms charging double for half the work. Thirty years on, we're still doing the same jobs the same way — properly."

— Jamie, founder, JJB Electrical Ltd

How We Work

Every job — from a single socket to a full rewire — follows the same five-step flow. No surprises, no missed days.

1

Free home visit

One of our electricians comes round at a time that suits you. We have a proper look at the job, ask sensible questions, and write notes. Takes 20–30 minutes, no charge.

2

Fixed-price written quote

You get a clear quote with every part itemised. If we spot anything that's optional or "nice to have", we tell you what it costs and what it does — your choice whether it's in or out.

3

Book a start date

Once you're happy with the quote, we book you in. You'll have one named electrician as your contact through the whole job — same number, same person, every day.

4

Work done, tidy up

Dust sheets, boot covers, hoovered when we leave. We test everything, photograph the finished work, and walk you through what's changed before you sign anything.

5

Certificates & aftercare

You get your NAPIT certificate within 5 working days. If anything goes wrong in the 12 months after, you call us and we sort it — included in the original price.

What Our Customers Say

★★★★★

"Jamie and his team rewired our whole 1930s semi in eight days. Spotless every evening, kept us in the loop, and the price didn't move a penny from the quote. Genuinely the best tradespeople we've ever used."

"Had a 7kW EV charger installed last month. Quote was given on-site, work done two weeks later, OZEV grant applied for and paid out. Couldn't have asked for a smoother experience."

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions homeowners and landlords ask us most often. If yours isn't here, give us a ring and we'll talk it through.

For genuine electrical emergencies — sparks, burning smells, no power at all — we aim to be on-site within four hours during working days. Outside hours, we work with a trusted local emergency electrician network and can usually get someone to you the same evening.

Yes, every quote is free and on-site. We don't quote over the phone for anything bigger than a single socket because half the time there's something behind the wall we couldn't have known about. Visit takes 20–30 minutes, no charge, no obligation.

Yes — NAPIT registered, Part P certified, TrustMark government- endorsed, and Which? Trusted Trader approved. We carry £10 million public liability insurance. Happy to show certificates on request.

For an average 3-bed semi, around 5–7 working days. Larger properties or jobs where we're working around existing décor can take longer. We give a date range with every quote so you can plan properly.

Most of our customers do. We work one room at a time, keep power on in unaffected rooms wherever possible, and never leave you without lights overnight. If you've got a particular room you need to stay usable (e.g. a home office), tell us at quoting and we'll plan around it.

Bank transfer, cheque, or card. For jobs over £1,000 we ask for a deposit (usually 25%), with the balance on completion. No work is asked for in cash and we don't take payment until you've signed off on the finished job.
